BL in CLAMP

  • Jun. 20th, 2008 at 12:38 AM

Ok, this topic realllllllllllly needs to be discussed my friends. Now I fancy myself a BL fan, I read the fic, look at the art, find the non-existent subtext just like all you pretend you don't, but I draw the line between what I enjoy outside the cannon series, and what I wouldn't want to see in the series itself.  Now, CLAMP does enjoy the whole “Soul Mate” thing. This is where they have two characters, usually two boys, who are tied to each other. Their lives are so wrapped up and dependant with each other you cant see them any other way. Now these two boys are like cute fluffy bunnies in a pet store just waiting to be picked up, ogled and violated beyond all means by tiny children, but then never brought home.

Tsubasa is not the Fandom

  • Jun. 20th, 2008 at 12:21 AM

This was bound to come out eventually, so here it is Tsubasa.... ((Some Spoilers))

Alright, before I dive into this madness that calls itself a series, I will say this. I don't hate it. I do in fact enjoy the series; I enjoy the characters, the plot twists, and the chemistry in the protagonists. I do thouroghtly enjoy Tsubasa. What I do NOT enjoy are the fangirling twats who claim that they are a hardcore CLAMP fan because they watched this one series.

Eagle and Lantis Anime ending WTF

  • Jun. 19th, 2008 at 11:01 PM

<<< Some Spoilers>>>

Why is it, that when a manga turns into an anime, the producers decide that something so perfect and complete must be changed? Do they feel they must make it different? It might have been the original creators wanting to take it in a different direction, but with the sake of Magic Knight Rayearth, I just gotta ask...Why?

Alright so, what was wrong with Eagle making it back alive? Sure, he is now stuck unmoving in bed in a coma...But if I was lying there with Lantis reading me bed time stories while I drooled like a veggie, I would still say (if I could) "Hey! At least the writers liked me enough to keep me alive and not dead". So why is it in the anime version of this series they decide that he cant make it back in a touching moment of selflessness on the protagonist’s behalf, he has to wind up dead...I mean, sure he "sacrificed him self for the good of the world" but really, it was just an excuse to have Hikaru and Lantis in a relationship without the small little problem of "oh shit, what do we do with Eagle?". Instead of having him get over the loss of Lantis (whom was stated to be the one he loved most, and vice versa in the manga) he gets to die an unfortunate death while Hikaru goes back and has a lovey dovey section with Lantis and Eagle is forgotten in the background..... The hell

Sometimes change isnt all that great, and the original story had its way for a reason.

Eagle got gipped, Lantis moves on to fast and it made me disappointed with the anime.

ps. To end on a happier note, I did enjoy the series in the manga, it was epic (so be thinking I was hatin XD)

pps. To all you Tsubasa fans.... I wasnt toooooo disappointed by their roles in Tsubasa.... They were kept pretty good for their characters...Ill rant on the other MKR characters when we cross that bridge in the future

Subaru and Kamui. wow.....

Ok, this has been on my mind for a while, and I might as well get it out here.

first off, Subaru. Cute little fella from Tokyo Babylon. Yes he has a twin, and no its not your precious Kamui. Meet Hokuto, one of the most shafted female members of a CLAMP series ever. And the reason for this is beyond me other then that she might interfere with your oh so perfect yaoi. (though she did nothing more then give everything for her brother, love him, be friendly and nice, and overall a great character) now, back to the character at hand. Trained to be the head of his family, he had a pretty ok childhood, minus the creeper who met him near a cherry tree, though he didn’t really remember that for the majority of his life before the events of the manga (though you would think he would question the gloves a lot more, but that’s just me).
Ok, so by the events of the manga, he is cute, friendly, shy yes, but he would do anything to help someone even without direct gain on his behalf. Blah Blah Blah, life is good, now enter Veterinarian friend (aka, creepy tree man from paragraph above) Seishiro. Now without giving you a narrative of the entire series, cause that would destroy all the fun you are going to have reading it yourself (riiigggghhhtt? "Right X"....that’s better) Lets just say that by the end of the manga he is emotionally ruined and has a few unfortunate events in his mind (not forgetting that his only love was smashed to pieces, leaving his entrance into X/1999 a little emo and not as happy go lucky as the cute little Subaru we all knew and loved to bits.

Kamui, holy fuck dude is all I can really say. But no....He may act like he has an overly large world saving sword shoved up his ass, but lets cut the boy some slack here. Yes, he had an ok childhood at first. He had friends, a little kid crush, whoo hoo, life is swell...not. He moves away and his mother spontaneously combusts (no, seriously). He gets a little emotionally constipated, and eventually moves back to Tokyo where the events of X/1999 play out ( I would explain it, but I would need a large chart, some pencils and a blender).

Somewhere in the madness that is that manga, Subaru and Kamui meet. and let the wank begin. Somewhere in their meeting while I received this warm fuzzy feeling from the two that though they both had someone else that their destiny was supposed to go with, they found each other to gain comfort, support and just someone else who has been through what they are going through. In each other they had peace. This was adorable. CLAMP themselves could not have described it better when they called it sisterly. But....In this cute, warming, touching bond, you spazzy fangirl twats decided that off page they were doing each other day in and day out. And that console means to violate in ways that are not physically possible in this universe or probably any other. Sure I have read some fic of them, but when it gets to the PWP fics that are made to just get the two of them in bed together with trousers down....A part of dies inside and goes to heaven to mourn with Hokuto for a while for the loss of the innocence that is Subaru.

So, so wrap this all up. Leave Subaru and Kamui to be their messed up, sister-like bond seeking, tragic figures they are, and leave your fangirl emo!sex in your empty little head where it belongs

ps. Tsubasa fans out there..... They are NOT Twins, NOT Emo, NOT Together, and for the love of god NOT NOT NOT Vampires,

Ashura Gender NEAUTRAL

  • Jun. 19th, 2008 at 8:05 PM

Ok.... So, Rg Veda. Wonderful piece of work. CLAMPS debut manga, based on Indian mythology, beautiful art, touching story, wonderful characters....blah blah blah. I am not here to tell you why you should go read this manga, though you should....

There is something that has to be said, for the love of my fandom.

The main character of this manga was born WITHOUT A GENDER!! *insert gasp here*. Now don’t get me wrong, I wish he (for the sake of needing a pronoun) was a boy as much as the rest of the BL fangirls out there, but he was born without a gender as a punishment to his father. So spamming forums on how "Ashura is boy omg!!!1111 he and Yasha = best yaoi evar!!!"..... or even "Ashura is a girl XD she is so cute, and yasha love her long time!!" is a waste of internet space, and could be used for other things, like I dont know.... your obituary.

so save us all the trouble, leave it for what it is, and let it go.

ps. To all you fangirling Tsubasa fans claiming that because they made it a girl in that, then that must be the cannon gender. But, if any of you bothered to buy the manga (spending money? but that’s so old school??!), you would have read the editors note at the back, and that would have summed a few things up.

Welcome

This is Clamp Rants. This journal is dedicated to the ranting about the fandom that calls itself that of CLAMP. Now don't get me wrong, I am not here to rip on CLAMP for being a bad manga group, because they are far from it, and I know that first handly, having read everything they have written (manga, collaborations, short works, doujinshi, everything). If you agree with me, good for you, if not? good for you. These are the opinions of one person only, and I dont need to receive messages from you telling me how wrong I am.

Anyways, read, enjoy if possible
